Even with the simplest lifestyle, life can throw difficult, challenging circumstances at us. I know I have experienced this. One thing that is in my book, Our 60 Year Journey, I recall a time when we experienced being in the war between East Pakistan, India, and West Pakistan in 1971. We lived in Karachi, West Pakistan, at that time. I tell my readers in the pages of my book how I got through that time, the stresses and escalation of the war, until my kids and I were evacuated to Teheran, Iran. All of us Americans were put in the Intercontinental Hotel.
There I was with two kids, no husband because my husband Don had to stay behind in Karachi to do his job communicating from the US Consulate in Karachi to other US installations, whether other embassies in Pakistan, listening posts, and/or the Pentagon. Some of the other ladies were crying and distressed. One of the other wives asked me, “Pauline, how can you be so calm about all of this?” I told her, “I have two very impressionable kids watching every move I make and checking every emotion on my face, and I must be strong for them.”
For me, remembering this and so many other situations in my life have shown me God is in control. How do you see things in your life that you clearly sensed the Lord was right there in tense moments in life? When I pray my words need to reflect what the scriptures say. I would challenge you if you have not used the power of prayer to lead you in your actions and words, try it. Ask the Lord to take your life and use it to His glory. Let me know how it goes!
